Best Time to Visit Morocco
Sahara heat, Atlas snow, coastal breeze — match your month to your Morocco, with honest trade-offs.
Morocco has four countries' worth of weather in one kingdom: desert, high mountains, Atlantic coast and Mediterranean north. There is no single best month — only the best month for the trip you want.
Spring (March–May): the all-rounder
The safest choice for a bit of everything. Cities are warm but not hot, the Sahara is pleasant before summer, Atlas valleys are green with meltwater, and the high pastures come alive. This is peak season for classic routes — book stays early.
Summer (June–August): coast and altitude
Head for the ocean (Essaouira, Agadir, Tangier) or the heights: the High Atlas is at its best, with warm days and cool nights above 2,000 m. Avoid midday desert crossings — the Sahara and the southern valleys are genuinely extreme in July and August.
Autumn (September–November): the connoisseur's season
Clear light, warm seas, harvest in the valleys, and thinning crowds. Early autumn suits the Sahara, the Atlas and the cities alike; by November the first snows can dust the high passes.
Winter (December–February): cities, desert, snow
Crisp sunny days in Marrakech and Fes, magical clear desert nights (freezing after dark — camps provide heavy blankets), and snow in the Atlas. High mountain tracks, including parts of our High Atlas traverse, may close temporarily.
Travelling during Ramadan
Ramadan moves each year — check the dates for yours. Days run slower, many restaurants close until evening, and the iftar atmosphere after sunset is unforgettable. We adjust timings and meals; travelling during Ramadan is entirely possible and often deeply memorable.
Rule-of-thumb pairings
- First Sahara trip: March–May or September–November.
- High Atlas walking: late April/May to October.
- Beach and surf: year-round; warmest water late summer.
- Cities and culture: any month — winter is crisp and crowd-free.
