Imilchil: Twin Lakes & Legends
Two mountain lakes, a legendary wedding festival and Amazigh highlands — Imilchil is our founder Abdellah's home, and our deepest Atlas journey.
The Atlas at its most personal
Imilchil sits on a high plateau where two lakes — Isli and Tislit — face each other across the pasture, wrapped in the legend of two lovers that gives the famous wedding moussem its story. It is remote, rarely visited, and utterly unlike the Marrakech-side Atlas: stone villages, high pastures and a culture that receives few outsiders.
This is Abdellah's home village — nobody on our team knows a destination the way he knows Imilchil. Come for the lakes, the festival season or the full Azilal-to-Rich traverse, and you travel as a guest, not a tourist.
Highlights
- Lakes Isli & Tislit — the twin lakes and their legend.
- Wedding moussem — the legendary festival gathering (seasonal).
- High pastures — walks between stone villages.
- Amazigh hospitality — gîtes, bread ovens and mountain meals.
- Assif Melloul gorges — the white river valley east toward Agoudal.
Good to know
How to get there
Imilchil is remote — mountain roads from Azilal, Midelt or Rich, all slow and spectacular. Do not self-drive this unless you know mountain tracks; our drivers run them weekly.
How long to stay
We recommend two to three days for the lakes and villages, more inside the full traverse. The road in is half the experience.
Best time to visit
Late spring through early autumn for open roads and green pastures; the wedding moussem season draws the biggest gatherings. Winter roads can close — ask us first.

Is Imilchil hard to reach?
Yes — that is the point. Mountain roads from every direction, slow in all seasons. Our drivers run them weekly; self-driving is not advised for first-timers.
