Dades: Road of 1000 Kasbahs
Winding valley roads, rock fingers and kasbah villages — the Dades is the south's great driving valley, between Skoura and Todra.
The valley that drives itself
East of Skoura the road starts climbing and the Dades begins: a green river ribbon between red rock walls, strung with kasbah villages and the strange eroded "monkey finger" formations. The famous switchback road above the gorge is one of Morocco's great driving moments — best taken slowly, with stops.
The Dades links Skoura to the Todra Gorge and on to the desert. For the combined picture, see our Todra & Dades route overview.

Good to know
How to get there
The valley runs east of Skoura toward Todra, served by buses and grand taxis from Ouarzazate and Tinghir. With Abrid, your driver paces the switchbacks and viewpoints for the light.
How long to stay
We recommend one driving day plus one valley night. The road deserves daylight and the guesthouses deserve an evening.
Best time to visit
Spring brings roses and green fields; autumn brings clear light. The valley road works year-round.

Dades Valley questions
What are the monkey fingers?
Eroded limestone formations above the valley road, nicknamed for their shape — the Dades' signature roadside stop, with viewpoints on both sides.
Dades or Todra — which gorge?
Both: they sit on the same southern sequence and take one shared driving day plus a night. Dades for the winding road, Todra for the sheer walls. We sequence them here.
Can Abrid include the Dades in my trip?
It is already on most of our southbound routings — Skoura ? Dades ? Todra ? Merzouga. Request it here.
